Minimum Qualifications for the LPFD

Firefighters in front of mobile officeEducation:

High school graduation, GED, or equivalent.


Possession of appropriate, valid California Driver's License and, when required, a valid Medical Examiner's Card must be maintained. Possession of a valid California Class B Driver’s License is required within 18 months of employment.


Current National Registry EMT or California equivalent and current CPR certification required at time of appointment.


Valid National Registry EMT-P Certification or California Paramedic License Alameda County accreditation is required by completion of LPFD Academy.

  • Experience: 6 months of filed experience as a licensed Paramedic.

Fire Science programs exist in many Community Colleges, throughout the area including Las Positas, Los Medanos, Solano, Modesto and others. The requirements are similar in each.
